CAWIN DOWNLOADING CODE OPTIONS

** Last updated 3/11/96 **

There are many options available for installing the
Client Access for Windows 3.1 client. The diskette
and server options still exist. We have also added
a new option of using a PC CD-ROM to install all
the Client Access family of products.

Here is a list of possible installation options:
 o Diskettes
     - After Client Access for Windows is installed on
one workstation, you can create more sets of
install diskettes and pass them around to the
       rest of the workstation users.
     - Refer to Informational PTF II08753 on how to
       create the diskettes.
 o PC CD-ROM
     - Order a CD-ROM to pass around to all the other
       workstation users.
     - Read "Install on a PC CD-ROM"
 o LANs with PC Servers
     - Copy the code from the install diskettes or a
CD-ROM to a server for other workstation users
       to install from.
     - Read "Install on LANs with PC Servers"
 o AS/400s running LAN Server/400
     - Copy the code from the install diskettes or a
CD-ROM to a LAN Server/400 for other workstation
       users to install from.
     - Read "Install on AS/400s running LAN Server/400"

***** NOTE *****
Because of a problem with the backslashes not printing,
all places that require a backslash have been changed to
a vertical bar "". Make sure when you are actually
entering the path names that you use a backslash.

INSTALL ON A PC CD-ROM
______________________

The CD-ROM contains the Client Access/400 programs and files
for the DOS, Windows 3.1, and OS/2 clients. To install the
Windows 3.1 client from the CD-ROM, do the following:

  1. Insert the Client Access CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Select Run from the file pull-down menu.
  3. Enter d:WIN16QPWXCWNINSTALL.EXE for single-byte or
     d:WIN16QPWXCWNDINSTALL.EXE for double-byte,

where d: is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive

To install from a CD-ROM connected to a PC Server, enter
the drive letter of the PC Server when installing. For
example, if the PC Server has the CD-ROM in the F: drive,
enter f:WIN16QPWXCWNINSTALL.EXE.

INSTALL ON LANS WITH PC SERVERS
_______________________________

If you want to install Windows 3.1 on LAN attached
workstations without using diskettes or the file serving
connection to AS/400 shared folders, you can copy the
Client Access/400 for Windows 3.1 code to a PC server
and install it from there.

Steps to follow:
 1. Install Windows 3.1 on one LAN attached PC that also
has access to the PC server.
 2. Start the Windows 3.1 router and assign one drive to the
root of the AS/400 and another drive to the PC server.
 3. Copy the following directories and their contents from
the AS/400 to the PC Server:
     o QPWXCWN - Base Client Access/400 for Windows 3.1
     o QPWXCPC - Personal Communications/5250 (if required)
     o QPWXCRB - RUMBA/400 (if required)
 4. On each of the workstations to be installed from the
    server:
o Create a directory called CAWIN to contain the
installed code on the hard disk.
o Create a file called PCS.INI in the CAWIN directory
       containing this entry:

        <Startup Options>
        InstallDrive=d:

where d: is the drive containing the QPWXCWN
directory from Step 3. And "Startup Options" needs
       to be in square brackets.

o Select Run from the File pull-down menu.
o Type the following in the Run box:
         d:QPWXCWNINSTALL

where d: is the drive containing the QPWXCWN
       directory
Note: When PTFs for windows 3.1 are applied to the AS/400
system or new releases are installed, repeat steps
2 and 3 to ensure that the code on the PC server
is at the same level as the version on the AS/400.

INSTALL ON AS/400S RUNNING LAN SERVER/400
_________________________________________

If you want to install Client Access/400 for Windows 3.1
on LAN attached workstations without using diskettes or
the file serving connection to AS/400 shared folders,
you can copy the Client Access/400 Windows 3.1 code to
a FSIOP (or File Server I/O Processor) and install it
from there.

You need to have the proper hardware (FSIOP) and
software (LAN Server/400) on the AS/400 and workstations
in order for this to work. Also, note that this
process can only be used on single-byte installations.

Steps to follow:
 1. Determine which alias name on the AS/400 refers to
a network server storage space with sufficient free
    space by:
o Using the WRKNWSSTG command to find out how much
disk space is available for each configured drive
       letter.
o Using the WRKNWSALS command to find an alias that
refers to the storage space that you want to use.

The base Client Access/400 for Windows 3.1 along
with all associated products require about 30MB.
 2. Copy the following directories and their contents from
the AS/400 to the FSIOP file system QLANSrv.
     o QPWXCWN - Base Client Access/400 for Windows 3.1
     o QPWXCPC - Personal Communications/5250 (if required)
     o QPWXCRB - RUMBA/400 (if required)

If you have a workstation that already has both Client
Access/400 for Windows 3.1 and LAN Requester installed,
you can assign a drive to the root directory on the
AS/400 and copy the directories using the following
commands from a DOS prompt. In this example, the Z:
drive is assigned to the AS/400:

      MD Z:QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCWN
      MD Z:QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCPC
      MD Z:QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCRB
      XCOPY Z:QPWXCWN*.* Z:QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCWN /S
      XCOPY Z:QPWXCPC*.* Z:QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCPC /S
      XCOPY Z:QPWXCRB*.* Z:QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCRB /S

Otherwise copy the directories and their contents
    with the following commands:

      MD DIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCWN')
      MD DIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCWNMRIxxxx')
      MD DIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCPC')
      MD DIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCPCMRIxxxx')
      MD DIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCPCPDFPDTx')
      MD DIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCRB')
      MD DIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCRBMRIxxxx')
      MD DIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCRBCHARSETS')
      MD DIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCRBKBDINFO')
      MD DIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCRBMACRO')
      CPY OBJ('QPWXCWN*')
          TODIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCWN')
      CPY OBJ('QPWXCWNMRIxxxx*')
          TODIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCWNMRIxxxx')
      CPY OBJ('QPWXCPC*')
          TODIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCPC')
      CPY OBJ('QPWXCPCMRIxxxx*')
          TODIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCPCMRIxxxx')
      CPY OBJ('QPWXCPCPDFPDT*')
          TODIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCPCPDFPDT')
      CPY OBJ('QPWXCRB*')
          TODIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCRB')
      CPY OBJ('QPWXCRBMRIxxxx*')
          TODIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCRBMRIxxxx')
      CPY OBJ('QPWXCRBCHARSETS*')
          TODIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCRBCHARSETS')
      CPY OBJ('QPWXCRBKBDINFO*')
          TODIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCRBKBDINFO')
      CPY OBJ('QPWXCRBMACRO*')
          TODIR('QLANSrvALIAS1QPWXCRBMACRO')

where ALIAS1 is the alias name selected and
xxxx is the number for your national
language. For example, English is 2924.

 3. On each of the workstations to be installed from the
    FSIOP:
o Create a directory called CAWIN to contain the
installed code on the hard disk.
o Create a file called PCS.INI in the CAWIN directory
       containing this entry:

        <Startup Options>
        InstallDrive=d:

where d: is the drive that will be assigned to the
FSIOP. And "Startup Options" needs to be in square
       brackets.

o Select Run from the File pull-down menu.
o Type the following in the Run box:
         d:QPWXCWNINSTALL

where d: is the drive assigned to the FSIOP.

Note: When PTFs for Windows 3.1 are applied to the AS/400
system or new releases are installed, repeat step 2
to ensure that the code on the FSIOP is at the same
level as the version on the AS/400.
